Best Electric Shavers For Women Buying Guide

Things to Consider When Buying Electric Shavers for Women

There are those who are very much tied to their manual razors. They have always used them and have become reliant on the results they get from using them - especially when it comes to shaving the leg area. Truth is, for a super close shave a manual razor is pretty hard to beat. But it can also be harder to use, cause cuts, razor burns, and irritation. In fact, for those suffering from eczema or other skin complaints, a manual shaver can be a no no for obvious reasons. So, if you are yet to try an electric razor there are a few things you should take into account before you buy.

On what part of your body are you using it the most?

There are so many electric shavers on the market, it can be hard to make a choice between all of them. That said, not all electric shavers are created equal – some are good for shaving legs, while others are designed to tackle more sensitive areas like the bikini line and even eyebrows. Research is key. If you are not sure which electric shaver to go for, think about where you will be using it the most – legs and underarms or bikini and face? Make those decisions a priority when shopping.  Do you want the best foil shaver? Do you want a shaver that will cut your leg hair as well as it does your underarms? Do you want a shaver that will not aggravate your sensitive skin? Think about these things when searching for the right electric shaver and remember to check out reviews online.

What type of hair do you have?

If you have thick, coarser hair on your head, then you will probably have the same hair on the rest of your body too. Keep this in mind when choosing your electric shaver. You may need something a bit more heavy-duty, maybe a shaver with more blades, one with bigger blades or simply a shaver which has been designed with your type of hair in mind. With so many on the market you will be spoiled for choice, just do the research before you buy.

Do you have problem skin?

Those who suffer from eczema, dermatitis, lesions, new scarring, sensitive skin or any other skin condition will need to consider whether an electric shaver may aggravate and make their condition worse. Even if your skin does not react on first use, remember that a razor is something that you will be using regularly, and it may cause damage to your skin in the longer term. Again, do your research and read electric shaver reviews online - especially from people with the same skin condition as you.

Cord or no cord?

If you are someone who travels alot or who likes to bring their shaver to the gym – going cordless is a great option for you. That said, remembering to charge up your electric shaver beforehand can be a bit of a pain. You see, the thing about women’s legs is that the hair always grows back! You may need to leave your shaver on charge all the time to ensure that it is ready when you need it. If this sounds like way too much work, go for an electric shaver you can simply plug into the wall.

Gel, soap or water?

Gel, soap or water? That is the question. People often wonder, can you use shaving cream with an electric razor? The answer is yes and it can make for a great shave. Shaving cream and gel can often create more slippage than soap so may allow for a smoother shaving experience depending on the type of electric shaver you have. There are also shavers that require nothing at all, as we have shown above. Different strokes for different folks, and different electric shavers too.

How to Use an Electric Razor

We would all love to have a flawless body razor, one that works perfectly for our skin. Truth be told, I think there is an electric razor out there for everyone – it just might not be the same one. That said, shaving technique is pretty consistent regardless of which electric shaver you choose.

Here is a quick checklist to make sure you are doing it right when you are tackling that leg hair:

*Remember to switch on your razor BEFORE you put it to your skin*

Step 1:, Apply your product of choice, then start at the lowest part of your leg and bring the razor up to your knee, repeat.

Step 2 : Gently focus on your knee area to remove any missed hairs.

Step 3: Now start at the top of your knee and bring the razor up and across the front and then back of your thighs.

Step 4: Rinse your legs and moisturise thoroughly

What's the difference between a traditional manual razor and an electric shaver?

So you are not sure an electric razor is for you. After all, you have your old faithful manual razor and are they really that different? Yes…yes, they are. A manual razor works by running a sharp blade across your skin to remove the hair. It will provide a closer shave by being in direct contact with the skin. On the other hand, an electric shaver has a completely different design which in fact allows for a safer shave. An electric shaver is designed to gently roll over the skin, pushing the hairs upwards and into a position for cutting. The blade is used to cut the hair rather than to scrape across the skin.

Is it safe to use an electric razor on my face?

The best electric razors to use on the face are specifically designed to do just that! Like all tools, your electric shaver should be used in the way that the designers and manufacturers recommend. Using an electric shaver that has been marketed for removing hard to reach leg hair will not be a great choice for that soft peach fuzz on your face. There are some shavers which claim to do it all, and some do a great job of ticking the majority of boxes. Saying that, the skin on your face is very delicate and can be prone to breakouts and blemishes, don’t risk it by using hair removal tools on your face that have not been designed to.
