Resolution: A Better Breakfast

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Burt’s Bees. The opinions and text are all mine.

It’s no secret that eating a wholesome breakfast is essential for brain function, not to mention regulating blood sugar and jump-starting your metabolism. When I get on a breakfast kick I definitely feel the difference: more energy, fewer coffee-induced jitters and I’m definitely able to concentrate better—a serious bonus in a social world that’s short on attention span. But it can’t just be any breakfast. I need something that packs a serious protein punch if I’m going to make it to lunch. BURT’S BEES just launched several protein shakes that I swear were made for me and that I know you’re going to LOVE.

In addition to 15 grams of protein per serving, BURT’S BEES PROTEIN SHAKE formula includes five plant-based protein sources: pea, rice, flax seed, sunflower seed and oat for digestibility and complete essential amino acids. As an added bonus, you’ll start the day with vitamins from real fruits and vegetables. I am all for sneaking in some veggies first thing in morning!

BURT’S BEESPROTEIN SHAKES are formulated with 70% organic ingredients, and are non-GMO, gluten-free, soy-free and dairy-free, and made without artificial sweeteners or flavors. If you’ve been on the smoothie train you know how hard this combination is to come by. The last thing I want is a bunch of sugar and additives in my protein powder when the whole point of a smoothie is that it’s good for you!

I’ve been making my morning smoothies with the PROTEIN + HEALTHY RADIANCE VANILLA, made with whole fruits and vegetables and antioxidant vitamins A, C and E for a healthy glow (I’ll take all the help I can get…). The vanilla flavor tastes creamy and real—it’s lovely with berries and unsweetened coconut milk (my go-to dairy alternative). And although I had my doubts, unlike other pea-based powders I’ve tried, this collection isn’t gritty AT ALL.

Breakfast isn’t my only sacred morning ritual. I’ve also made an intention to start the day with meditation and reading something just for me—not for work. Magazines, self-help books, inspirational passages I’ve bookmarked…setting aside time for this kind of self-care first thing grounds me and sets the tone for my entire day.
