How to Fix Self-Tanner Mistakes


Orange palms. Streaky legs. Splotchy ankles. No matter how handy you get with the self tanner, there’s bound to be a few accidents. Even with years of practice, I can apply in the morning and discover some unsightly situation by midday. I also tend to get lazy and just slap the stuff on, only to realize I’ve missed the back of an arm. Super hot when you’re sleeveless . . . These five fixes are of varying strength but they can all help in a pinch, or until you take Maya’s advice and leave it to the professionals!

1. Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin C Body Polish is perfect for prepping skin to ensure an even application, but it’s also my go-to for evening out a streaky self tanner job. Then there’s the pineapple scent. // 2. I haven’t tried St. Tropez Tan Optimiser Tan Remover but if it’s anything like the brand’s sunless tanning mousse, it’s got to be good. // 3. WARNING: Use Mr. Clean Magic Erasers at your own risk as they’ve been known to burn skin. They’ve also been known to clean up my most embarrassing “experiments.” Just dab, don’t rub! // 4. and 5. Mollie Michura, the owner of The Glow Lounge, swears by straight-up lemon or mineral oil for buffing out any boo-boos. And if anyone knows, it’s her!
