DIY Summer Sorbet Mani

Let me first start by saying, I’m not super great when it comes to painting my nails. I simply don’t have the time (or hand eye coordination!) to make my nails a consistent work of art. But summer is all about mixing up your style and trying your hand (get it?) at new things, like this color block of sorbet shades that you don’t have to be a professional to re-create—trust me.

Step 1: Pick Your Polishes
Before starting a new nail style, I always swing by Sally Beauty and check out their impressive nail studio wall (because how can you go wrong with 750 shades?) I’ve been loving the gorgeous summer sorbet trend, so I snagged a few of my favorite pinks and purples for inspiration but really, any pastels will do.

Step 2: Paint the Base
For my nails, I added two coats of OPI Do You Lilac It?. Take a little breather and let your nails dry for at least 10 minutes before you move on to step number 3.

Step 3: Lay the Tape
Grab a roll of clear tape and lightly place one of the edges on a diagonal across each nail to make triangle on the tip of your nail. With your second polish color—in my case, Nina Ultra Pro Polish in Burst My Bubble—paint over the exposed triangle with a thick coat. Repeat on the rest of your nails and let them dry again for another 5 – 10 minutes.

Step 4: The Big Reveal
Carefully remove the tape to reveal your sweet mani. Make sure to touch up any spots freehand if the tape happens to pull away any of the base polish color. Once again, make sure your nails are dry then add a clear, quick drying top-coat (I adore Out the Door which dries in 3 minutes flat.)

And viola! You’ve got yourself an easy-breezy, perfectly summery nail look in less than 30 minutes. So why not go forth and conquer the summer all while looking perfectly polished doing it? Please share any other fabulous nail trends you’re loving right now—bonus points if you’re painting them on yourself!
