Crimped Hair is Back + Sally Beauty Giveaway!

sally1 Every girl has a summer hair fantasy, and mine happens to be a head-full of ocean-kissed waves. Too bad the closest body of saltwater is two thousand miles from my Midwestern home! In order to make my hair-dreams a reality, I enlisted help from Ion products and tools, a professional-grade haircare line available exclusively at Sally Beauty. (Psst, this month, a purchase of three Ion products or one Ion styling tool will net you a free tote bag. They’re super cute! And oh, we’re giving away one that’s chock-full of ION products…details on that after the how-to.) sallyion Step 1: Start with clean hair. With fine hair, and lots of it, I look for shampoos and conditioners that won’t weigh my ‘do down. Ion Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner deep cleanse, detangle and infuse it with weightless moisture. Since fluffy, natural waves are what we’re after, prepping hair with this set is a must. sallyionbrush Step 2: Smooth it out. In summer months, I tend to air-dry my hair and let its natural texture do its thing. To smooth out any frizz or tangles, I give it a once-over with my Ion Golden Wood Paddle Brush. A paddle/bristle hybrid that’s kind of like a Mason Pearson on steroids, it feels absolutely amazing on the scalp. sallyionthickening Step 3: Prep for volume. If my hair feels flat, I work in a couple pumps of Ion Thickening Styler from root to tip. Unlike like most volumizers, this product works on damp or dry hair, and doesn’t rely on heat to activate it. sallyionwaver Step 4: Pre-heat waver. For splashy waves in a hurry, I love, love, love Ion Titanium Pro Triple Barrel Waver. Unlike curling irons or wands, this slick tool can wave large sections of hair all at once. It heats up ridiculously fast, and the titanium curling surfaces distribute heat evenly for consistent waves. sallyionwaver2 Step 5: Make some waves. Start off by sectioning hair, leaving the bottom half down, clipping the rest up and out of the way. Working in one- to two-inch wide chunks, make your first wave, holding the waver horizontally across the hair for around 30 seconds. As you make your way down, switch the angle of the waver so that instead of an evenly crimped look, you get natural-looking waves. This approach allows you to make waves superfast—perfect for lazy summer days! sallyionoil Step 6: Moisturize. To up the shine factor, apply a bit of Ion Inspired by Nature Nourishing Oil Treatment. It’s a hydrating, smoothing treat for hair that’s just gone through a whole lotta heat, plus the smell of it is downright intoxicating. sallyionspray Step 7: Hold it. Finally, give hair a quick hit with Ion Hydrolac Hair Spray. Designed to work in uber-humid conditions, this medium-hold, non-stick spray has become my go-to finishing touch. sallybeautymeghan Step 8: Style it. What you do with your waves now is totally up to you! The texture serves as a great base for loose, laid-back up-dos, but it also is going to look great worn down. To keep it up and out of my face, I opted for a couple easy twists, fixed together in the back with a clear binder. Little braids would also be cute! GIVEAWAY! If you haven’t tried ION products before, the kind folks at Sally Beauty have offered up a polka-dot tote bag full of their best-sellers, including a Dual Voltage Ionic Travel Hair Dryer, Summer Shampoo, Summer Deep Conditioning Treatment, Sun Protection Spray, a $50 value! To enter, tell us about your go-to summer style in the comments below or Tweet us @beautybets.
