Our Blonde Bombshell Goes Red

Beauty Bets Last spring I got fancy hair extensions as a test model for my friends at HAUS salon (my favorite salon, home to my magical haircut goddess Caitlin Dvorak). These marvelous virgin European Euro-Loc extensions (worth a pretty penny) fulfilled all of my Britney Spears pre-meltdown sexpot dreams. I LOVED my extensions, but I woke up one morning a month ago and realized I was tired of hiding behind my bleach blonde hair. I wanted a more natural look, something that didn’t scream “LOOK AT ME!” I reached out to Charlie Brackney at HAUS, who put me in colorist Nikki’s capable hands. Out came the extensions and Nikki set to work on giving me a prettier version of my natural ashy blonde. She did a filler so my porous hair would absorb a richer shade of color, then applied a base and painted balayage highlights around my face to catch the light. I felt so much better; the new strawberry blonde color made my skin look better and brighter, made my eyes pop blue and gave me the chance to fiddle around with new lipstick shades, which is always a perk in my book. Over time it has lightened a bit to a tawny blonde and I eagerly await my next visit to Nikki’s chair. I have been feeling brunette lately … –Kara
