Budget-Friendly Barrettes!

I wasn’t much of a girly girl when I was young. My poor mom could barely take a brush to my mop without me bursting into crocodile tears—God forbid she try anything crazy like putting a braid or barrette in my ‘do. Now that I’m all grown up and it’s rare I meet a hair accessory I don’t like. Funny how that works right? Inspired by the resurgence of barrettes I spotted on the runways this fall, I rounded up four of my affordable faves.

Clockwise from top left:  1. Ombre’s a trend best suited to subtlety, and these Colorblocked Rhinestone Pins ($3.80) from Forever 21 strike the right balance at an unbeatable price.  2. I can see this pair of Twinkle Sparklers ($18) working wonderfully in a messy updo during the holidays. They come in gold and black glitter too!  3. Jane Tran’s got some really sweet patterned bobbies, but this set of solid Fluorescent Bobby Pins ($12) steals the show. There are four color collection options, ranging from muted to club kid.  4. Even if I wasn’t a major sucker for polka dots, I’d still love Free People’s Wire Bow Barrette (on sale for $10). I’d pair it with jeans, a concert tee and a messy teased half-up, half-down hairstyle.  —Meghan
