Julie Hewett Cheekie Lip & Cheek Shines

It all started with a trip to pH OREM Skincare, in the North Loop of Minneapolis. It’s an urban oasis, if you will, that reminds me of San Francisco and why I wish I lived in a loft. But folded into all that modernity is a holistic, hippie, hedonistic approach to wellness. Before my ethereal deep-tissue massage with Julia—who has a painstaking, almost supernatural way with ye old knots—I went b-a-n-a-n-a-s for the spa’s makeup line from Julie Hewett. Heard of her? Ms. Hewett is an esthetician and hollywood makeup artist whose classic, red-lipped work you might recall from Pearl Harbor or Inventing the Abbotts (otherwise known as one of the best movies of all time). But her greatest gift is this makeup collection. The clean, luxe black-and-white packaging completely undid me. Then came the actual product. I don’t think there was a lipstick I didn’t swipe or a shade of blush that I didn’t have to have. I haven’t been this crazy about makeup since . . . ever. But the thing that really sent me over the edge: these Cheekie Lip and Cheek Shines. The name is completely brilliant, for one thing. And the irresistible glass pots are filled with the richest, creamiest, most perkily-hued rouge ever. Yes, I have lots of cream blush. But none that look like these! I may just have to get all seven and line them up on my dresser so I can look at them every day. The next thing you know I’ll be collecting porcelain DOLLS.
