Hey y’all! Back in the saddle after a lovely, leisurely holiday. It’s officially been a week since I started using Meaningful Beauty’s anti-aging system and I am thorough enjoying my little kit. What is it about using only products from the same line that feels so luxurious? Maybe it’s my otherwise schizophrenic beauty habits (research has its price), but it’s wildly satisfying seeing every bottle neatly lined up in my medicine cabinet, looking all matchy-matchy. As for the products themselves, it’s too soon to give a full report but I can tell you this much: My skin feels comfortably hydrated all day—and that is saying something for the single digit temps I enjoyed over the weekend. Moisture is my main skincare concern this time of year and so far so good with the Antioxidant Day Crème SPF 20. It also delivers that instant dewiness upon application that makes me extremely happy.
I’m also rather pleased with my meaningful activities. Specifically, that I’ve made it to THREE spin classes. That’s three times that I’ve gotten out of bed before 6 a.m. Do you know how dark it is at 6 a.m.? This week I’m switching gears (ha) and doing something for someone else. First up: calling a friend I haven’t spoken to in months. Not for any other reason than I’m a workaholic. Although my friends and family are truly the most important and most favorite things in my life, I can easily become completely obsessed with my to-do list to the point that everything and everyone else fades to black. I know this, so I have to make a conscious effort to take breaks from the work that I love to focus on the people I love. Also to sleep, work out, do the laundry . . .
Second meaningful activity this week: Volunteer my time on the annual campaign drive for Wilderness Inquiry, the Minneapolis-based nonprofit that provides outdoor experiences for people who may otherwise not have the opportunity. The great outdoors have enriched our lives so deeply, supporting this organization is second-nature for Mr. Bets and me. Have you found a cause that you feel truly connected to? Today’s’ the day to get involved! Check out GivingTuesday.org for volunteer ideas and inspiration in your community.
There’s only one day a year that I will ever ask you to give more than your brightness and energy to this blog, and today’s the day! Wilderness Inquiry, the Twin Cities nonprofit that provides outdoor experiences for people of all backgrounds and abilities, needs just 300 new donors to receive a $30,000 grant. It’s participation that counts, which means that if every one of you donated just ONE DOLLAR, Wilderness Inquiry would reach its goal. If the great outdoors have enriched your life as they have Mr. Bets’ and mine, please consider giving here to this life-changing organization.
As an added incentive, everyone who donates to Wilderness Inquiry will be entered in a giveaway for my guy gift pick of the year: Boscia Revitalizing Black Hydration Gel ($38). It’s cooling, hydrating, soothing, and literally black thanks to oil-absorbing, pore-refining charcoal. This post-shave treat has MAN written all over it. If you’ve got one on your holiday shopping list, or want to do a good deed for the day, please DONATE HERE and leave your name below. I’ll announce the winner on Monday, just in time to get you the goods before Christmas!
Oh happy, happy day when I can combine two of my favorite things in one truly tantalizing post! At least I hope that’s how you’ll see it.
First, the question I’ve been getting a lot lately: What a good moisturizer with SPF? Something normally so easy to answer is made trickier by the cool, dry winter weather. Now is when our skin needs an extra boost of hydration that you won’t find in summer’s sunscreens and lightweight lotions. Which is why the new Hampton Sun SPF 15 SUPER HYDRATING Face Cream is magic to my ears. You see, it might be oil-free, but it’s got what so many heavy moisturizers don’t have: dimethicone. This little wonder plumps and soothes the skin, infusing it with an all-day dose of dewiness. Then there’s the antioxidant cocktail, essential for age prevention, and the zinc oxide, which is gentler on sensitive skin than chemical sunscreens.
Now, the second part of this gem. My favority nonprofit, Wilderness Inquiry, is just 50 new donors shy of reaching its annual goal. This brilliant group makes outdoor adventure travel accessible to those who might not otherwise get to experience the great outdoors. Money is great, but what they really need are NEW DONORS. So if you want to be considered for this giveaway, all you have to do is DONATE A DOLLAR HERE—or more if you feel so inclined—then leave your name in the comments below so we can celebrate your generosity. Cheers!
While I’m busy swiping lipgloss and getting my hair done for the greater good, my mountaineering husband is giving back the old-fashioned way: as a volunteer with Wilderness Inquiry, a nonprofit that makes outdoor adventure travel accessible to those who might not otherwise get to experience the beauty of, say, backpacking in the BWCA or kayaking Prince William Sound. Having been raised by freakishly active, nature-loving parents, I have a deep and abiding appreciation for the outdoors and its boundless ability to enhance one’s quality of life.
This month, you can help support Wilderness Inquiry’s efforts to turn 40 acres of land in the Apostle Islands into a fully accessible base-camp for disabled individuals and low-income families. Simply visit The Pepsi Refresh Project and vote for Wilderness Inquiry. Mr. Bets and I thank you.
