The Modern Girl’s Burning Sage

Up until this point I haven’t talked much about my fascination with the metaphysical. The older I get the more I believe in the power of that which we can’t see, but just KNOW. Call it what you want—God, spirit, energy, intuition, nature—but it’s everywhere, and I love exploring these inexplicable forces. It’s also incredibly uplifting to know that we are all connected. Whether you’re nodding your head in understanding or rolling your eyes in amusement, don’t turn your nose up at THIS: Smokeless Smudge Spray ($13.50).

I know you’ve seen some TV show on which a celebrity hires a hippie/gypsy/healer to clear negative energy and bless their home with burning sage. It looks ridiculous when the Real Housewives do it, but it’s actually an ancient Native American ritual. It also leaves the room smelling like an illegal substance. Smokeless smudge spray, however, is sage brush in a bottle. It actually contains three sacred essential oils and essences: sweetgrass to purify; sage to transform negative energy into positive energy and increase mental acuity; and cedar (also used in sweat lodges and saunas) to attract good spirits. You just mist away, filling the air with the most energizing yet deeply soothing scent. It’s fresh and herby and smells like positivity. I picked some up at Eye of Horus in Minneapolis after meeting with MY PSYCHIC (see? this deserves it’s own post.), and am going to spritz my new Seattle stu-stu-studio. It’s also going to be awesome to get me in the right mindset to meditate, and to clear my sinuses. Here’s to positivity and fresh starts! And you can even order it online!
