The much anticipated Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts today, and with it a slew of ACTUAL beauty deals. Not the fake kind that wind up being tiny babies of the most unflattering shades ever, tucked inside giant pleather makeup bags. Nope. This is the real deal, so I took the liberty of doing a little pre-shopping for you:
Smashbox Mascara Wardrobe ($24) – This is my kind of sampler. One lengthening, one volumizing, and one strengthening mascara for less than the price of most department store tubes.
MAC Apply, Line & Define Eye Brushes ($50) – Absolutely the best bang for the buck, MAC’s limited-edition brush sets are the way to go if you’re ready to start investing in quality tools. This 5-piece number is worth a whopping $125.
NARS Hopelessly Devoted Set ($53) – Includes cult-favorite Laguna bronzer and Deep Throat cream blush, Orgasm lipgloss, plus a peachy new shade—for $10 off retail.
Essie Fall Mini 4-Pack ($17) – Like crack for nail polish lovers, this set includes some seriously moody shades: Merino Cool, Limited Addiction, Little Brown Dress and Sew Psyched.
Juicy Couture World of Juicy Fragrance Set ($35) – Let’s be clear: I’m not advocating that you wear Juicy on your you-know-what. But man am I obsessed with all three of these sexy-sweet fragrances. The fact that they’re rollerballs just sends me over the edge. Also: Wouldn’t they make the perfect gifts for three bridesmaids or friends?
Bliss Fabulously Foaming Face Wash ($34) – A jumbo size of the Best. Face. Wash. Ever. I kid you not. When my husband stays at W Hotels, where they stock the bathrooms with this scrubby blue stuff, I make him schlep home any leftovers.
There’s no gift that could possibly make up for the headaches and sleepless nights I’ve caused my mother. So for this Hallmark holiday I like to treat her to something completely frivolous, superficial, and fantastically beautiful. Basically, anything that she wouldn’t buy herself is fair game.
Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss Trio ($40)
I regret to inform you that no woman can ever have enough Bobbi Brown. The lip gloss is particularly a problem because it looks like candy. This trio has all the best shades to brighten any mom’s face—literally. These little tubes are major glow getters. And this week you’ll get a travel-sized Crystal Lip Gloss and EXTRA Balm Rinse with code: FAVES1, plus free shipping on all orders over $65.
Sula Lovebirds Perfume Oil ($18)
Rollerballs are so sweet and nostalgic, not to mention a treat to tuck in your purse and discover midday. I would be obsessed with these for the packaging alone, but they also happen to smell lovely, too. The Fresh is light, grassy, with hint of lime and citrus. The Tropical is richer, with notes of vanilla, coconut, and pineapple. They are both incredibly sheer—perfect for spring.
Nars So Famous Gift Set ($40) Here’s something my mom would never buy for herself, but would secretly swoon over. It’s got all the trappings of a fresh and dewy look for spring: a mini Orgasm Multiple (a beachy illuminator), and full-size versions of Deep Throat Blush (shimmery peach) and Bettina Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (a natural rose-beige lip color). On second thought, probably best not to tell her her names of any of the products.
Infusion Organique Scent Diffuser ($56)
Flowers wither and die, but a diffuser lasts for months. Once again, I first fell for the packaging of this new company. Then I got a whiff of the tart acai berries and sparkling organic orange oil. It’s like a rain forest for your home
p.s. – If you missed Friday’s post, pop over for some hilarious and touching stories about what Beauty Bets readers have learned about lipstick, bribery, and hot rollers from their mothers.
Born and raised in Minnesota by surprisingly low-maintenance parents, beauty writer and lifestyle editor Elizabeth Dehn (aka Bets) spent her awkward years buying Mood lipstick and whipping up DIY face masks before founding Beauty Bets in 2009.
