Introducing our newest column, featuring beauty steals that are just as effective as the fancier competition. I’m the guiltiest of assuming that expensive equals better, but lately have been stumbling on some major drugstore discoveries. The whole the BB crew will be weighing in, but we love reader recommendations! Like this one from recent grad Deven, who’s trying to support her beauty habit on an intern budget. (Been there, done that.)
Sometimes I just want a break from thick, heavy face creams. I want something more, well, refreshing. And Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream ($7) is it! I love it in the summer because it’s light and non-greasy, and still delivers the moisture. But I use it year ’round because it is so gentle and lightweight it won’t interfere with other skin products, like an acne treatment gel or prescription face cream. I wear it over a retinoid and my skin stays smooth and calm. I had been using Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief ($49) but there wasn’t any difference except the price! –Deven

(l to r) Bobbi Brown Extra Moisturizing Balm ($85) – During the cold dry winters, I have never received so many compliments on my skin as when I’m using this cream. It’s got the most luxurious texture, and gives you that amazing glow! Kiehls Creme De Corps Body Lotion ($10 and up) – When it comes to body moisturizing, I don’t mess around. I discovered this amazing lotion when I used to work in Colorado for a week every winter, and it totally got me through. Make Up For Ever HD Foundation ($40) – Not too drying or too heavy, this foundation gives the best level of coverage and creates a perfectly smooth, non-cakey look. St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse Self-Tanner ($40) – Ladies, I’ve tried them all and this is the one! It’s not orange, it doesn’t smell bad, and it applies evenly. The other day, I wore a skirt with bare legs for the first time this season (gotta love SoCal weather) and I applied this for an instant, natural, been-at-the-beach-all-summer look. MAC 36 Lashes ($13) – Whenever there’s a special event or media appearance, false lashes are that extra touch I need to make my beauty look rise to the occasion. The 36′s are the perfect length and amount of volume, without looking too piecey.
