Two NEUTROGENA® Products We (For Real) Can’t Live Without

2 Neutrogena Products We Can't Live Without

Pretty pink blush? Lay it on me. The newest, all-the-rage concealer? Come to mama! Ever since I was young enough to play with my mother’s lipstick, I’ve always been a fan of makeup. Sure, there’s the immediate pep in your step after you swipe on a coat of cherry red lipstick, but what I really love is the confidence boost makeup gives me—there’s really no denying that the right products have the special power to make you feel beautiful. When Bets discovered that NEUTROGENA® has been one of my favorite makeup lines for years, she asked me to share all of my go-to’s that make me feel beautiful because of their skin-enhancing benefits.

2 Neutrogena Products We Can't Live Without

On those mornings when I just can’t, NEUTROGENA® SkinClearing® Blemish Concealer ($9.99) is my early morning bestie. It’s the ultimate multi-tasker, brightening undereye circles and covering pesky blemishes while clearing them up. I HATE concealers that look like concealers and this one looks flawless and natural. The added benefit of fighting those blemishes with salicylic acid doesn’t hurt either.

My other NEUTROGENA® necessity: MoistureSmooth Color Sticks ($5.99). You know, the yummy pencils that twist up, no sharpener needed. So good. I keep a stash in my desk drawer for afternoon pick-me-ups—right around that time I’m looking for coffee #3. These sticks are a little affordable luxury—moisturizing and conditioning while giving a low-maintenance sheer wash of color.

Asking me to choose a favorite shade is equivalent to picking a favorite child, but lately I’ve been sporting Soft Raspberry (#60) and Bright Berry (#40) as my wardrobe becomes a bit more moody and neutral in the fall.

We Tried It: Japanese Skincare + the Perfect Sunscreen for Fall

I don’t know about you, but every time fall rolls around I feel a little more inspired to give my skin some well-deserved TLC. Between one too many patio happy hours over the summer and now-fluctuating temps, finding the right skincare products in the new season is always at the top of my to-do list—including my ongoing search for the perfect sunscreen. Yes—sunscreen! It’s a year-round thing.

Japanese Skincare

A few weeks back I stumbled across Equitance, a new-to-me Japanese line whose “Bihada” approach (the belief that beautiful skin comes from thoughtful skincare practices and eating/living well) totally resonated. Equitance has built a brightening skincare line rooted in powerful plant-based ingredients, including Vitamin C and one I hadn’t heard of: linoleic acid, extracted from safflower oil. All of us at BB are so big on preventing and minimizing sun damage as naturally as possible and no one has cornered that market better than the Japanese. In a clinical study, Equitance users reported a nearly 30% decrease in dark spots after using the regimen for four months. I believe it: I’ve already seen a noticeable difference in mine!

Like any good skincare line, each product works better when they’re together. To really get to know the brand, I hopped right on the whole regimen to see if this stuff was really as life changing as the reviews said (spoiler alert: it was everything, and more). Now, I start my mornings with the Brightening Foaming Cleanser, which has become my go-to for silky smooth, squeaky-clean skin. Not only does the cleanser eliminate my dull, tired skin cells, but it also leaves my skin brighter and more radiant than before – double bonus! Next, I reach for Equitance’s Brightening Toning Lotion that’s known for helping your skin better absorb moisturizer. It’s the perfect base pre-makeup application, and it smells extra delicious to boot, which everyone can get behind. For my blotchier, red skin areas (no shame ladies, we all have it!), the Brightening Serum has become my new favorite product to even out my skin tone. I then make sure to grab Equitance’s luxurious Hydrating Brightening Cream, known to protect against environmental stressors and restore radiance. If you’re a big city gal like me, you know how much pollution and the harsh environment can test your patience, and your skin – so this lotion a must have if you’re looking to give your skin (and confidence) a much needed radiance boost. Lastly, I’ve been taking Equitance’s Skin Radiance Dietary Supplements and I’ve seen visible effects in the last few weeks in improving my skins appearance and overall radiance. If you’re new to the vitamin and supplement skincare scene, definitely give these a try!

To top it off, I make sure to put on a few drops of sunscreen before I head out the door. As a sunscreen aficionada, I’m always looking for a light, effective and purse-sized lotion that will protect me from the sun, and I loved Equitance’s Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 36 lotion. After seeing the insane number of positive customer reviews on this product, I took it out for a spin last weekend while out on a boat in the middle of Lake Michigan. As you’d expect, my blonde hair, blue eye combination makes me a magnet for even the weakest rays. Rather than tanning as much as I did in my early 20’s, I’ve happily taken a step back, fully embracing my porcelain skin. Believe me, in the long run, pasty’s where the party’s at. Although I adore all the products, the Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 36 is easily one of my favorite sunscreens I’ve tried. Equitance uses a mix of scientific and all-natural botanicals to give your skin the best of both worlds: brightening and moisturizing in addition to major sun protection. That is no small multi-tasking miracle in my book. I love using the purse-sized lotion whenever I find myself unexpectedly out in the sun for too long, or as a protecting primer before putting on my makeup in the morning.

Brand to Love (Like, A Lot): Aesop

Brand to Love: Aesop

I’ve come to the conclusion that we all need more of one thing, and that’s vacation days. After a few months of feeling worn out at work, I took a much-needed vacay to Portland to see what all the fuss is about. From the incredible $5 food trucks to the cutest little shops I’ve ever seen, I’m totally smitten with Stumptown.

Brands to Love: Aesop

One of my favorite shops was Aesop, an Australian beauty brand with to-die-for apothecary packaging and boutiques to match. For those of you new to Aesop, let me introduce you. This collection of unisex skin, hair and body care products are a seriously legit mix of science and nature, with plant-based and lab-formulate ingredients to solve a variety of grooming woes.

Brands to Love: Aesop

Best of all, everything smells close-your-eyes amazing (think that signature Aveda scent, only better!). I had to resist the urge to snag one of everything in the store. Luckily the staff are incredibly knowledgeable, do an amazing job of picking out the right products for your needs, and are extra generous with the free samples.Brands to Love: Aesop

And can we talk real quick about their gorgeous interiors? Swoon! Every store is different, but I loved Portland’s West End location best of all. That sink and perfectly charred fir-wood interior are seriously stunning. Now the only question remains: When can we move in?

Have you tried Aesop products? Any absolute favorites we need to get our hands on?

We Tried It: Dirty Lemon Detox

We Tried It: Dirty Lemon Detox

If you’re anything like me you’ve probably tried every detox you can get your hands on, from whacky juice cleanses to those bizarre Hollywood cookie diets (yup. google it!). I’m always ready to jump onto the latest bandwagon, so when Adina of S.W. Basics recommended the Dirty Lemon Detox as her favorite ways to alkalize your body, we had to give it a try.

We Tried It: Dirty Lemon Detox

Dirty Lemon is much more than an awesome name (with striped bottles to boot). It’s got lemon juice, yes, a raw and natural detoxifier. But it’s made with activated charcoal from coconut shells, which absorbs thousands of times its own volume in toxins. While it might seem weird to drink charcoal-infused water (especially when it has a black tinted glow), it really does a number to cleanse your body from the inside out. Plus, it’s boosted with ginger and dandelion root, which aids in your body’s natural digestive process. For that reason alone I like to drink it before bedtime or after an insane meal.

We Tried It: Dirty Lemon Detox

Unlike other detoxes we’ve tried in the past, Dirty Lemon is all about balance. While most detoxes require cutting out everything delicious (which obviously never really works out), this one complements your lifestyle instead of bringing it to a screeching halt. Meaning, you can have your cake, and eat it too – as long as you wash it down with a little Dirty Lemon!
