South Africa, Here I Come!

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I spent mine making the most of rainy NYC with an old, dear friend. That meant mani/pedis (finally found my place here and the added massage is legit), lots of coffee, and full-on catchups at cozy restaurants like MeMe’s Diner (SO good). Now I’m in a packing frenzy for the trip of a lifetime: 10 days in South Africa. I have been dreaming of this destination since forever. We almost went for our honeymoon. Between the country’s storied history and culture, Big 5 wildlife, and breathtaking scenery, I’m in awe. There’s a mysticism to South Africa that makes me think I spent time there in another life. I’ll be traveling with a group of journalists and Antara Resorts so the itinerary is a wonder in itself, including helicopter rides to a private island, river safari, hikes to Victoria Falls, and, of course, outdoor spa treatments on the Zambezi River. I’d be lying if said packing was NBD. In fact, I’m sort of in heaven getting to break out my a few new safari-chic pieces—plus the a few new beauty finds. No TSA approved sizes here, I’m bringing a trunk!  -Elizabeth

(clockwise)  Maybe it’s the pace of living in a big city, but I was thrilled to discover Meant, a multi-purpose, organic luxury skincare line based right here in BK! I’ll be packing The Absolute Balm ($45), a shea-based do-everything hydrating oil serum for face, body and hair (one product for e’rything!), as well as The Every Body Bar ($23) which comes in the handiest of tins and is going to make me feel right at home—and lovingly clean—wherever we go. Hotel soap can be so drying, don’t you think? // Shorts. Not my fave. But essential in the heat and made cuter by a big bow + flattering pleats: J.Crew tie-waist poplin short ($68) P.S. They fit true-to-size. // Another J.Crew winner that I already wear on repeat and will be using to up my basics game: Tortoise Hoop Earrings ($19.50) //Madewell’s Rainbow Stripe Midi Skirt ($69 – on sale!) isn’t normally my thing in terms of length and linen but it’s so happy and breezy I couldn’t resist. I think the giraffes will approve. // Just released last week, Ole Henriksen Cold Plunge Pore Mask ($36) is the most fun mask I’ve tried in awhile—including Hanacure. It’s blue, cooling, exfoliating and pore cleansing, which means I’ll be using it all summer, too. // I can’t find my new $8 straw hat from Target to link to but this J.Crew Factory Packable Straw Hat ($18) is similar and it’s on sale! I doubt I’ll take it off in that that sun. // Kate Somerville 360 Tan Towelettes ($42) are the next best thing to getting a spray tan, and one wipe works on face AND body. // I can’t wear these Soludos Cadiz Sandals ($119) without getting compliments. They’re so comfortable and go with everything! But yes, will still be bringing my birks along because you can’t look cute ALL of the time.
