In Praise of Taking A Break

Does this scene look familiar? I multitask so often I don’t even realize I’m doing it! Working from home most days doesn’t help either, what with distractions like laundry or our sweet yellow lab lurking around every corner! The upside is that when those 3 o’clock hunger pangs hit, I’m able to fix myself a healthy snack.
When the sugar cravings strike, instead of reaching into my co-worker’s bottomless candy bowl or eating a day-old donut from the break room (who, me?), I’ve been whipping up a wholesome “milkshake” with BURT’S BEES™ Protein + Healthy Radiance Shake in chocolate. One of my food peeves are products that pretend to be something they aren’t (sorry, no, those dates do NOT taste like pecan pie), but this protein powder actually tastes like chocolate because it’s made with cocoa powder.
I’ve sung the praises of BURT’S BEES™ Protein Shakes before, as my go-to protein powder for morning smoothies because of it’s made with 70% organic ingredients, plant-based protein sources that require fewer natural resources for production and have a less harmful impact on nature, plus none of the things my body doesn’t love, like gluten, soy or dairy.
I like to add banana or even an avocado—trust me—for creaminess, plus a little ice and coconut milk. It’s like cheating! Only it’s not just because you’re getting the protein needed to make it to dinner, but you are also getting 25 percent of your daily values of Vitamins A, C, D, E, K, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, B6, Folate, Biotin, and Pantothenic Acid.
Fun fact: BURT’S BEES Protein Shakes can also be simply stirred into water or your favorite dairy alternative for a quick shake, no blender required! I will definitely be doing this when I’m short on time or need an energy boost during a workout.
Taking a break is so underrated in our always-on work culture. Making an afternoon snack, taking a quick walk, or even calling a friend, requires me to slow down, get present and just breathe. Even a fifteen-minute pause refuels me both physically and mentally so I can be productive the rest of the day. I wish you all a moment of peace in your day, whenever you decide to take it!
