In Praise of Lazy Summer Days
I promised myself that THIS SUMMER I would spend more time doing nothing. Maybe it’s a Midwest thing (we do have a scarcity issue . . .), but usually as soon as it warms up the social and travel calendars fill up. Not this year! With a new home and a new love, I’m making the most of my nest.
My latest ritual is sprawling out at the dining room table where we get the most incredible wash of natural light. Come afternoon, when most of my must-do’s are complete, I fix myself a glass of herb water, grab my journal and jot down any new post ideas for the blog, books I want to read, or recipes I want to try (just like my mother, I love a good grocery list).
I always surround myself with a few creature comforts, too, like essential oils for getting the creative juices flowing and EOS lip balm for a fruity, fun fix. The egg-shaped balms have always put me in a good mood! And because they are all-natural, packed with super-moisturizing shea butter, and under $4 (seriously, you can’t even buy a cappuccino for that), I apply liberally and often. It’s no wonder that my favorite furry co-worker, Molly, is always ready with kisses!
Summer is already halfway over—what have you done to relax?
