What to do When You Don’t Feel Good Enough
This week I googled “what to do when you don’t feel like you’re good enough.” Of all of the tools and techniques I’ve explored on the running theme of my life, I’ve never typed those words into the internet machine. Unlike best bbq, purple maxi skirt, or plaid rug, the question looked so sad waiting in the search bar. Among the psych analysis and step-by-step guides that popped up, I found a nugget of wisdom that even I, in my infinite yet often wasted wisdom on the topic couldn’t outsmart: Focus on progress rather than perfection.
The truth is, I am never satisfied with where I am right now. I ache to have it all figured out. For my life to be all-amazing and complete, tied with a big, red bow. Until I get there (spoiler alert: I never will. No one will. Because ‘there’ doesn’t exist!), I assume I’m doing something wrong. That I’m failing. That I’m not good enough. And yet it was impossible to argue with the advice. If someone had told me 10 years ago, or even one year ago, where I would be today I would’ve clapped my hands in glee and put up my feet. If I had known that I’d start a blog that people would actually read, that I’d collaborate on the best ever organic skincare line, that I’d be teaming up with the most talented beauty experts this side of the Mason-Dixon for the first annual Midwest Makeup Show on Sunday, July 24, well, maybe I’d have chilled the eff out.
This educational, networking and pop-up shopping event (you’ll be able to purchase One Love Organics!) is open to the public, so whether you are a card-carrying member of the beauty industry or an aspiring one, it’s a day to learn from like-minded people. I’m honored to be teaching the social media classes despite still feeling like a total spaz in this department, but if I’ve learned anything from my little Google experiment, it’s to focus on how far you’ve come rather than on how far you have left to go.
Enter to win a 4-pack of VIP tickets which includes complimentary admission, champagne, and an extra swag bag by texting the word “beauty” to 31996. Standard text and data rates will apply. For more information, to purchase tickets and enroll in classes, visit the Midwest Makeup Show. See you Sunday!
