Life Lessons

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it. | Life lessons on Beauty Bets

I’ve never been a quick learner. I may have excelled at school but I always felt slow. Pretty sure I got the line between my brows from Calculus. I’m not much faster with life lessons. Take being present. I understand the concept in theory. I nod my head vigorously when my friends and therapist and Oprah’s guru-of-the-moment implore me to live in the moment. I underline passages in self-help books and text brilliant quotes to said friends as if I’ve FINALLY figured it out and then . . . I fall down all over again. I look ahead. I think ahead. I get anxious. I want answers. I NEED answers. How will this story end? Spoiler alert: I don’t know. No one does. Not even my talented psychics. All that we accomplish in focusing on the future is missing the present. And really, what else is there? Every moment is all we have. Right now. Not later. Not someday. One of those gurus said something recently that runs through my mind even though I sometimes pay it no mind: Only the present predicts the future. Think about it. If you are doing what’s best for you and true to you in the moment, how can you fail? What is there to worry about? You are creating the future as you go. Do you want to create anxiety and stress or do you want to create magic, joy and inner peace? The present is here and it’s trying to get our attention. I think I’m finally ready to listen and learn.
