What A New Haircut + Jean Shorts Can Do for You

I’ve always been a late bloomer. Heck, I’m still waiting for two particular things to come in… So it wasn’t until August that I felt like I was hitting my summer stride. I’ve got my bronzer down, my favorite mani/pedi shade, a few new go-to jumpsuits, and suddenly I find myself wearing out something I never thought I’d wear again: jean shorts. These aren’t just any jean shorts though. They’re perfectly broken in and distressed, like anything boyfriend should be. I saw how cute they were on my girl Grace at The Stripe and took a chance. Now I think I’d be bottomless on the weekends without them. (Rag + Bone The Boyfriend Shorts, $209 at Shopbop.com).

I wore them to my last haircut at Evolution in the LynnLake neighborhood of Minneapolis, along with a ponytail which is a dead giveaway that I was totally overdue. I’ve been going to this almost-too-cool-for-me salon for years and years and have always seen Mel (who is not amused in this pic but always humors me).

I send everyone to Evolution because, well, just look at the place, and because Mel is a rare stylist who puts you at ease and never gives me too hard a time when I predictably ask for “just a trim.”I know, borrrrrring. But I know my hair and it prefers long layers a only a teeny bit of face framing. That’s it or I turn into Pat Benatar gone bad. Nothing makes things better like a good haircut, amiright?

And a good pair of jean shorts, obvi.
