Best of self-tanners

Now that we’ve got bronzers covered, it’s time to move on to my other summer beauty love: self-tanners. They’ve come so far from the orange-y formulas of my youth, when I would spot some poor (but brave!) woman across the pool looking like a streaky oompa loompah. Before you slather on one of these golden formulas, be sure to shave your legs and exfoliate both face + body (naturally I love One Love Organics Vitamin C Body Polish for this!), to get the most even application possible. I prefer to self tan my body in the morning, after showering, but do my face at night to wake up to a nice glow. How often you apply is really up to you. More gradual formulas can be used daily while a darker version should last a few days.selftanners2015

1. St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse ($42) makes our list every year because it’s so easy to apply the airy foam and dries almost instantly so you can slip right into your white jeans. // 2. Supergoop! SPF 20 Gradual Self-Tanning Sunscreen ($38) has you covered with sun protection and sunless tanning. // 3. A gel based sunless tanner with a built in bronzer, Lancome Flash Bronzer Body Gel ($42) will give you an instant glow then develop in just a few hours. // I’ve tried just about every facial tanner on the market and BareEscentuals Faux Tan Sunless Tanner for Face ($24) yields the most believable color. Layer it over your moisturizer and you’ll be sunny by midday. // Another perennial favorite, Kasia Organics Honey Dip Sunless Tanner and Anti-Aging Cream ($29) smells like honey buns, develops into a deep golden brown that lasts for days, and feels really good on the skin—all without the use of synthetic ingredients. // 6. I never skip town in the summer without packing at least one Kate Sommerville 360 Towelette ($48 for 8), which covers face + body in one handy swipe.
