My Winter Skincare Routine

winter skincare

By request I’ve put together my current cold-weather skincare routine, something I could’ve done months ago but this way you know that they’ve been tried and tested and really do work! Also. I realize it’s almost spring in some parts of the world, but winter is just getting started here in the Midwest. . . good grief.

CLEANSE (am/pm): One Love Organics Vitamin B Cleansing Oil & Makeup Remover ($39) takes it all off and gently exfoliates without stripping the skin so it’s perfect morning and night for ALL skin types. Oil breaks down oil while leaving drier skin hydrated and soft. I’m of course biased but it’s really no surprise that this is a runaway best-seller!

BRIGHTEN + PROTECT (am): The first product I created with OLO and the one I truly could not live without, our Vitamin C Serum ($68) is an antioxidant cocktail of powerful proportions. It prevents environmental damage while undoing it thanks to a super-stable, extra-potent dose of Vitamin C Ester. In other words: say goodbye to your sunspots. It’s also oil-based so you get the dewy factor. For many of you this may be enough as your daily moisturizer, but if your especially dry . . .

MOISTURIZE (am): Press a pea-sized amount of Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream ($43) over the serum. I’ve used this rich face cream for years and keep coming back to it for the deeply nourishing shea butter it contains and the rosy glow it gives my skin. Beeswax also provide a protective layer that’s so needed in winter.

REPAIR (pm): Arcona is my go-to for hard core anti-aging needs, of which there are many. The new Advanced Vitamin A Serum ($85) is a natural form of retinol yet highly active so you will literally notice a change to your skin’s texture, clarity, pore size and luminosity in a week. I’m also certain that Vitamin A is one of the reasons I’ve managed to keep fine lines (mostly) at bay despite a few bad habits . . . NOTE: for best results use this serum alone or wait 20 minutes before topping with your face oil or moisturizer.

TREAT (1-2x/week): A couple times a week I treat my skin to Arcona’s Mandarin Brightening Peel ($78). The fruit enzymes deeply exfoliate without leaving my skin red or irritated. I love that this one only take 5-7 minutes so I can do it in the morning or before I go out for the night. If I REALLY need to look my best, I apply a thin layer of Yon-ka Paris No. 1 Masque before bed in place of my moisturizer and wake up with totally transformed, juicy skin. You guys, it’s seriously the best moisture mask I’ve ever used. Also amazing on long flights!

P.S. In the winter I usually rely on my makeup to provide sun protection. Jane Iredale Glow Time Mineral BB Cream SPF 25 is the best base I’ve used: dewy, sheer yet full-coverage, long-lasting and free of synthetic ingredients.
