Not unlike many of you, every year my family and friends sit around the Thanksgiving table and share what we are thankful for. Sometimes the answers are short and sweet (bouncing babies, good health). Sometimes there are tears of joy or tears of sadness. Inevitably, the answers lead to the best kind of dinner conversation—about life, love and what’s important. Makes me wonder why we reserve this ritual for holidays. This year, when the bottle of Vouvray gets passed my way, I will respond that I am thankful for all of the people who take me just the way I am, despite my best efforts to convince them otherwise. That includes every one of you who has read my very personal Monday posts and reached out to say OMG, yes. I get it. I understand. And please keep writing! You’ve given me the gift of vulnerability and reminded me of how connected we can be, if we only allow each other in. As I head Up North to the cabin with a carful of dogs and leftovers, I’ll be wishing you the same feeling of grace that comes from knowing that you are loved and never alone.
