Mood Lipstick for Grownups

Henna Lipstick: it reacted with the body's natural pH and temperature to create a unique shade on each wearer and stains lips for several hours.

You know when you get distracted by one of those 30% off at J.Crew emails and suddenly 45 minutes have passed? Well, that happened to me recently after I found an article on Pinterest about henna lipsticks. You might also remember them fondly as “Mood” lipstick if you’re an 80s baby. The stuff usually comes in some bizarre color, like green, and magically changes the color of your lips after application. How does this work? The main ingredient, Red 27, reacts with your body’s pH to create a custom shade on your lips. The shade of pink will look different on each person and the product stains your lips for several hours. I couldn’t help but immediately order a tube off eBay ($5-10) and test it out. Although I won’t be tossing out my collection of lipstick anytime soon, I really appreciate that this product acts like more of a stain and looks really natural. Plus, you can vary the shade by applying multiple coats or quickly swiping it on for a light flush of color. And it really does last several hours—I recently wore it while eating, drinking, kayaking and swimming and the color stayed put!
