Packing List: The Southern Shore

beach style

Hallelujah I am off to the beach! This is a vaca in the truest sense of the word: eight days with the people who know + love me best on an island off the coast of North Carolina, a state where my soul always feels right at home. Kings of Leon Back Down South is queued up on the iPod and my belly is ready for BBQ and seafood. Shopping was an adventure since I haven’t worn a bikini since, oh, 2005, but I got a spray tan, a stack of magazines, and a month’s supply of sunscreen on my side. I also brought along a few laid-back seaside essentials that I’m excited to have a chance to break out. And yes, I’m checking my luggage!

beach-packing-list1. Just the right about of prep, that’s how I feel about Tortoiseshell, plus these Rowley Eyewear No. 3 ($109) shades offer more coverage than my Ray Bans.  //2. Earth Tu Face Rosemary + Salt Body Lotion ($38) smells like the ocean at dusk, when it’s cooled down a bit. Herbaceous and invigorating. //3. I never met a clutch or a stripe I didn’t like. BeautyCounter’s ($30) canvas pouch goes perfectly with my entire suitcase!  //4. When I really want to treat myself (or pretend I belong in St. Tropez), I break out the Clarins Delectable Self Tanning Mousse ($43). This one has SPF and something fancy called Mirabelle oil so you can rationalize the investment.  //5. In case you blinked and missed it, Bobbi Brown came out with a Nectar + Nude collection this spring that is off the charts, particularly the pale peach and pink lip glosses ($25) that set off a faux tan beautifully.  //6. I have been waiting for the day when One Love Organics would dabble in haircare, but this all-natural, gardenia-scented dry shampoo (coming June 16!) and its handy travel size are more than I could’ve hoped for.  //7.  It took about 72 bikini try-ons but I finally landed on a navy combo from J.Crew. Classic and practical.  //8. No more face in the sun for this girl. Was thrilled to stumble upon this big, floppy, boho number at Target ($15).  //9. Between my hat, sunglasses and Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector SPF 43, which beats out any BB or CC cream for being water-resistant, my skin will be amply protected and near flawless.
