Lash Week: DIY Coconut Oil Makeup Remover
I’m on a quest for simplified routines, this time of year especially. Which is probably why I’m head-over-heels obsessed with this (too easy to call it a DYI) coconut-oil makeup remover. It’s gentle yet effective and so ridiculously easy to do. Here’s how!
Step 1: Acquire some organic coconut oil. Since I use my jar most often for cooking and baking, I decanted some melted oil into a pretty vintage Avon jar I bought at a thrift store. It looks a lot nicer in my bathroom than a big ol’ jar, yes?
Step 2: Grab a cotton pad and give it quick run-through under warm running water. You don’t want it soaked, just a bit dampened.
Step 3: Swipe the cotton pad over the coconut oil, digging in a little if you need, so it picks up ½-1 teaspoon’s worth of oil. I usually work it into the pad a bit with my fingers so it’s distributed evenly.
Step 4: Remove your eye makeup just as you would with a store-bought remover and cotton pad. Repeat steps 1 through 4 on the other eye.
Step 5: Once you’ve finished, splash your face with warm water and pat dry.
It works like a charm, and leaves both lashes and lids feeling delightful. –Meghan // Photos: Julia McMahon @ LB Jeffries Photography
Tomorrow on Lash Week: A lash serum that really works.
I just did this the other day – and it worked like magic!!!
I think my favorite part of this is the pretty little jar you keep your coconut oil in. It’s much prettier than keeping the entire large jar in your bathroom!
@Amanda – of course you did! Meanwhile, I’m having a DOH! moment.
@Madison – right?!
Does this work with waterproof amscara too?
Absolutely!
LOVE coconut oil for removing makeup! I’ve melted some and combined frankincense, lavender, and melaleuca essential oils to help with my acne! I just keep it in a small tupperware though, since it’s only in my shower. Still works on my eyemakeup too!
