How to Look Like a J.Crew Model (Sort Of)
When I got this J.Crew catalog in the mail last weekend I was enamored with the cover model’s super-neutral makeup. I mean, here’s something I NEVER do: brown cheeks, tawny lips, zero color. And yet, with dark hair, pale skin and that gray and khaki outfit it totally works—and is kind of refreshing, don’t you think? Not expected and not overtly sexy or trendy, just chic in an understated way. So I set out on Saturday when no one was looking to see if I could re-create the look:
Minus the 15 years I have on the model that no makeup can erase, I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. And there’s really not much involved here, just getting the shades right for your skin tone. Here’s what I used:
1. Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes in Matte Brown eyeliner on top lash line and smudged into the lower corner.
2. Vapour Organics Stratus Instant Skin Perfector on the bridge of my nose and cheekbones for sheen.
3. Quite a bit of AERIN Quartz blush on the hollows of my cheeks, plus a pop on the apples so I don’t look like a contouring experiment.
4. AERIN lipstick in Jacquard, but I think that any dark, warm nude would work here, even a rosier shade if you have more pink in your skin.
What do you think? Any new makeup looks you’ve been experimenting with?
