The Mosquito Bite Cure
The rumors seemed too good to be true: instantly stop the itch of a mosquito bite with a warm spoon. Really? How could we not have known about this remedy our entire Midwestern lives?! Turns out, it works like a charm:
- Hold a spoon upside-down under hot water for 30 seconds.
- Press the back of the spoon onto the bite until the heat dissipates.
- Repeat.
For best results, give the bite at least 60 seconds of heat. The bump will remain, but the swelling and redness should noticeably improve—at least enough to keep you from itching and scratching. Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one! –Dani
That’s brilliant! Thanks! Totally pinning!
Good to know definitely trying next Summer!
That is a great tip!!! I wrote a post recently on different bug sprays it includes another secret to stop the itch. I would love for you to check it out. http://behindthemirrorbeauty.com/2013/07/10/another-bug-bites-the-dust/
Thanks for sharing this simple tip. It’s a good alternative than applying a medicine.
This works! And not just for mosquitos. I have bites from chiggers or something and one spider bite. I have so many my whole leg burns with how badly they itch. My friend told me about the hot water trick and it has been so great to just “burn” them and move on in life.
This is amazing! You’re right, how have we Midwesterners never known about this? I am so relieved to now have this tip- goodbye bug bites!
Tap water is all?
I used a pot of hot water.
What does it mean upside down exactly?
I dipped the spoons in boiling water. Is that upside down?
Am I doing excessive work?
