I’ll Be Wearing This J.Crew Factory Dress All Summer

As those of you regularly exposed to my one-note wardrobe are painfully aware, I live a striped life. Even my house is covered in stripes. Just as I no longer need a reason to drink bubbly (it really does go with everything), I’ve stopped apologizing for my devotion to a pattern that works for me, has always worked for me—long before it was fashionable, I might add. There’s a polka dot or two in my closet, and the occasional floral, but the stripe is my constant. It never goes out of style, and it always plays nicely with others—like leopard print. It’s the hardest-working basic I know. I just stocked up on a few new stripes for spring/summer and this J.Crew Factory shift dress ($98) turned out to be even better in person. I was worried it would look too cottony-casual, like a beach coverup, but it’s a lovely lined polyester that’s fitted enough to give a nice shape, but slouchy enough at the waist to be incredibly versatile. I plan to pair it with a yellow cardi and chunky gold necklace for work, wedges and a denim jacket for evening, or flip-flops and bare arms for just about any other weekend activity. It runs true to size, or maybe a teensy bit big, but that’s the look you want with this style. Let’s just not wear it on the same day, hmm?
