6 Stellar Drugstore Mascaras

I blew my budget on a bevy of drugstore mascaras, and seriously have been trying a new one every week for, like, months. Here are my top picks!  –Meghan

Best Natural Looking: L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes ($6)
Most budget mascaras leave you with nasty clumps after coat number two, but this one goes on smooth, swipe after swipe after swipe. And while you might not actually have a million actual lashes, the “millionizer” brush grabs individual lashes and separates them naturally so it looks like you do.

Best Waterproof: Rimmel Sexy Curves Waterproof Full Volume & Curve Mascara ($7)
I tested out a slew of water-resistant and water-proof mascaras during my weekly swimming workout, and this one held up the best. I like wiggling the hourglass-shaped brush through lashes to get the fullest possible single coat—layering this one without clumps was not possible. And while an hour in the pool might not make it budge, it’s a cinch to take off with makeup remover.

Best Color: CoverGirl Exact Eyelights Eye-Brightening Mascara ($4)
With four shades, each customized to flatter different eye colors, and a hint of metallic sparkle, this mascara subtly makes peepers pop. If you’re blue-eyed like me, try the Black Sapphire or Black Gold; brown-eyed beauts will benefit most from Black Pearl.

Best Volumizing: Maybelline Volum Express The Falsies ($8)
The spoon-like shape of this brush makes it easy to apply the entire length of your lashes, giving lashes tons of volume. My one and only complaint? Noticeable flakiness after just few weeks of use.

Best Lengthening: NYX Fly With Me Mascara Jet Black ($13)
Definitely the most luxe-feeling of the bunch, NYX’s Fly With Me mascara delivers far-out length, a healthy dose of volume and super rich black color.

Best Overall: Maybelline Lash Stiletto ($7)
After giving a dozen-plus budget mascaras trial runs, this one is still my favorite.
