Boot Camp is Kicking My You-Know-What

Today marks week 4 of boot camp at Lifetime Fitness in St. Louis Park. Here’s what I’ve learned, love, and am leaving behind for the next 8 weeks:

  • It’s a good think I didn’t know how hard it would be or I never would’ve signed up.
  • Just because I have big thighs doesn’t mean they’re strong thighs.
  • Monday morning boot camp is the worst, but it always ends up being the best part of the day.
  • I’m one of the most out-of-shape people in the group. And that’s saying something.
  • My friend Suzette, who just had a big, bouncy baby boy, can do a wall sit for 3 MINUTES longer than I can. She is my new hero.
  • If I want to lose weight, I may need to break up with the aged white cheddar from Trader Joe’s.
  • I’m a whiner and I didn’t even know it. This must stop. (But come on! Would YOU want to do push-ups while balancing on those little scooters we used in 5th-grade gym class??)
  • The instructor makes all the difference, and Nick is best sort: patient, positive, but just pushy enough.
  • I’m terrible at push-ups and planks, but rock the sit-ups. Which means, I’m starting to see the definition return to my abs—hooray!
  • This doesn’t mean I look like Jackie Warner. But I have lost 1 percent of fat around my waist, thighs, and triceps.

Admission to boot camp is rolling so you can join me at anytime! Just know I do not look pretty in the morning.
