How to Keep Your Makeup From Creasing

___
Q: How do I keep makeup from settling into the creases around my mouth and under my eyes? I’ve tried powder, primer, moisturizer, but nothing seems to work. –Aileen

A: It happens under my eyes, too! And it’s somewhat inevitable if you are prone to crinkling up when you laugh or smile. So the last thing I do before I dash out the door in the morning is use a Q-tip to wipe away any excess makeup that has settled. That’s probably not what you wanted to hear, so I called in our resident makeup expert, Suzy Martin, to respond:

First, make sure that you are exfoliating well and keeping your skin hydrated. Doing so will ensure that you have a good surface for your makeup. Glycolic acid cleansers, super-rich night creams, and under-eye creams and balms are your BFFs. I also recommend regular professional facial peels that using natural enzyme products like the Eminence skin care line (Bets says: or try a milder version like Kate Somerville Exfolikate home). After moisturizing, apply BECCA Line and Pore Corrector, a silicone-based filler/pimer that will not leave you looking softly diffused—not spackled. I won’t apply even a light foundation application with out having this product on underneath! But bottom line: Any primer is going to be more effective if your skin is well buffed, polished and hydrated.
